Internet Policy
Medina County District Library provides access to the Internet and other electronic resources to further our mission of satisfying the evolving needs and recreation pursuits of the county.
Not all information found on the Internet is accurate, up-to-date, legal or acceptable to all individuals. The Internet is unregulated and materials accessible through it may be biased, inappropriate, or offensive. The library does not control information found on the Internet and, therefore, cannot be held responsible for its content. Users are advised to use caution when sending personal information such as name, address, social security number, credit card number, etc. over the Internet.
Filtering software is installed on selected workstations to block access to material that might be deemed objectionable. Given the nature of how information and sites become accessible through the Internet, MCDL cannot and does not guarantee that the filtering software will block all sexually explicit material or any other material that some patrons may find objectionable.
It is the policy of the Medina County District Library that parents or legal guardians of minor children are ultimately responsible for the child’s use of the Internet at the Library. Furthermore, MCDL staff cannot be held responsible for supervising minors while they are using the Internet workstations.
MCDL is committed to providing an environment free from sexual harassment. Patrons may not display on screens or printers sexually explicit graphics or other materials which may be objectionable.
Use which damages equipment and/or software is prohibited and may result in legal action.
The Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17 United States Code) governs the distribution, adaptation, reproduction, public performance, and public display of copyrighted material. The user is solely responsible for any possible infringement of copyright laws; the Library disclaims any responsibility or liability that results from any such action.
The use of this service to engage in any activity, which constitutes violation of local, state and/or federal laws, is strictly prohibited.
Users violating these guidelines will be asked to stop. If the violation continues, the user will forfeit the right to use the Internet access station and may be asked to leave the Library.
All users of the electronic resources of the library agree to hold the Medina County District Library harmless for any and all claims, losses, damages, obligation, or liabilities directly or indirectly relating to the use of the Internet or workstations.
Medina County District Library reserves the right to regulate the use of workstations to include the amount of time a workstation may be used, printing restrictions for that workstation, chat room use on a workstation, etc. and further reserves the right to terminate an Internet session at any time.
The Medina County District Library reserves the right to modify this policy and to develop corresponding procedures that are deemed appropriate and in the best interest of promoting and enforcing the intent of this policy. |
