Outreach Services
The mission of Medina County District Library Outreach Services Department is to provide and enhance access to library materials and services to those with limited physical access to our facilities through home delivery or bookmobile service.
- Home Delivery
Home Delivery
Can’t come to us? We’ll come to you. Outreach Services makes monthly deliveries of regular or large print books, audio books, DVDs and other items to people of all ages who have difficulty coming to the library. Library staff visit individuals in their homes and at Medina County senior residence and care facilities. Service can be ongoing or short term while you recover from an accident or illness. Let us know what you’d like us to bring you, or let us choose based on your interests.
To find out if home delivery service is right for you, or for someone you care about, please contact us at 330-722-2590.
Volunteers add friendship to home delivery
Many Outreach library members like having a Bookmate, a volunteer who delivers their library materials each month. A Bookmate will enjoy getting to know you and talking about books over a cup of coffee. Our volunteers have submitted character references and undergone background checks so you can feel confident welcoming them into your home.

Talking Books
The Talking Book program of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped provides a unique, digital player and books for blind, visually impaired and physically or reading-disabled individuals. Book cartridges arrive in your mail box, and you set them out for your letter carrier when you’re finished listening. Medina County District Library can help eligible county residents enroll in this free program. Call us at 330-722-2590 for more information.
- Magnifiers
Magnifiers
See for Yourself Magnifiers are provided through a partnership between Medina County District Library and the HANDS Foundation.
The ability to read enriches our lives and helps us connect with our world. When that ability is diminished because of physical limitations, those connections can be lost. Medina County District Library is happy to provide quality, reading magnifiers for use in our libraries or to check out for use at home.
Each magnifier kit contains 5 different magnifiers. Kits can be checked out for two weeks. To reserve a kit, call 330-723-2463 or fill out the form below. Magnification increases by number: 2X being lower and 5X being higher.
Magnifier kits include:
- Bar Magnifier - 2X magnification
- Dome Magnifier - 4X magnification
- Handheld Magnifier with Light - 5X magnification
- Stand Magnifier with Light - 5X magnification
- Full-page Sheet Magnifier - 2X magnification
After trying our magnifiers you may find one that suits your needs. In that case, we suggest you contact your eye care provider or the Cleveland Sight Center for professional consultation.

- Deposit Collections
Deposit Collections
These consist of materials withdrawn from our system or donated to MCDL. Outreach Services employees sort through these materials and choose specific items for specific locations. These Deposit Collections have been developed for varied ages and interests. From large print popular fiction at the Office for Older Adults to board books in the Medina County Health Department’s waiting room to cassette books at local truck companies and truck stops, we share our withdrawn materials with many in our county.
Not every person in Medina County is able to walk through our library doors and check out items, but they are still MCDL members. By utilizing our withdrawn items to create Deposit Collections, we are still able to serve them and, hopefully, to enrich their lives. All we ask is that they
