What is Medina County R.O.C.K.S.?
Medina County R.O.C.K.S. is an interactive workshop based program series for parents and their kindergarten-age children to attend together. Each workshop has informational speakers for parents, interactive programs for the children and reading readiness activities that parents and children complete together. The workshops are each 2 hours long and children and parents who participate in ALL workshops in the series will show the greatest gains in skills.

Registration Information:
All registration for 2017 is complete. Registration for 2018 sessions will begin early spring 2018.

History of Medina County R.O.C.K.S.United Way of Medina County
Medina County R.O.C.K.S. began as Brunswick R.O.C.K.S. in 2011 as a partnership between Brunswick City Schools, Project Learn and Medina County District Library and was funded primarily through United Way. In 2014, Medina County District Library received a grant from United Way to expand the program. In 2015 and 2016, R.O.C.K.S. was offered in the Buckeye, Cloverleaf and Medina school districts.

Workshop Format
Parents and caregivers will attend a 1 hour session covering:
Literacy activities to do at home with your child
Methods to raise your child to be a good reader
The importance of interacting with teachers and school officials

Children will attend a 1 hour session that includes a story time and art project staffed by volunteer educators.

The second hour of the workshop is an opportunity for the child and parent to work together on new literacy skills and activities.

Families will receive valuable take home packets at each session which contain:
Materials and activities to practice at home
Books for reading at home
Poems, rhymes and much more
