They are a gateway to explore stories and cultures beyond our own experience. Our ability to create and foster connections, in a world where individuals report feeling ever more isolated, is part of what keeps demand for public library services strong. At MCDL, we strive to play a crucial role in building community connections in a wide variety of ways ranging from hosting special events and programs to providing public meeting space for community collaborations. Project Read is a collaboration with the Medina County Sheriff’s Office. This voluntary program uses books to connect incarcerated individuals with their young family members through stories. Inmates choose a children’s book and write a note in it for their child or grandchild. Then they are videorecorded reading the book to their special youngster. The library mails the inscribed book to their family and the Sheriff’s Office emails the video. This spring, we were invited to re-institute this popular program and partnership. It is just one example of our dedication to serving all Medina County residents without exception. On April 23, the Medina County Sheriff’s Office held their annual Awards and Commendations ceremony. MCDL, represented by Outreach Manager Ann Plazek, was one of four community entities to receive a STAR award (Sheriff’s Thanks and Recognition). We were honored to be included in this year’s program and thankful for this opportunity to serve the community in an innovative way. Scan to access the digital Library Live
