Scholarships

Organizations and clubs commonly update and publicize their scholarships in late winter or early spring each year. The deadlines for applications are often in February, March and April so that winners can be selected and scholarships awarded before the end of the school year. For any changes to the information below, or updates, contact the organizations offering the scholarships. Often, the scholarships' amounts and deadlines will vary each year.

Scholarships for Medina High School Students

AAUW of Medina County Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund was originally established by the American Association of University Women of Medina County to promote the academic development non-traditional female students attending an accredited college/university. The "non-traditional" student is seen as a woman whose undergraduate education has been interrupted or delayed. Applicants must be a resident of Medina County.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Non-traditional female student
  • Applicant must be at least 23 years of age
  • Must be a resident of Medina County
  • Attending an accredited undergraduate college or university
  • Finalists must provide evidence of enrollment in a degree or certification program

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement, clarity of stated goals, objectives and determination of need. Application will be screened by the committee and results are usually announced in May.

Akron Community Foundation

The following is a list of scholarships that are distributed by the Akron Community Foundation that may apply to Medina County students:

Birthcare of Medina County

To Qualify:

  • You must be a client or client spouse of Birthcare within the current year
  • You must be a resident of Medina County
  • You must have a GED or high school diploma

Scholarships will be awarded based on:

  • Need
  • Clarity of stated goals and objectives
  • Impact scholarship would have on your future

Deadline: June 29th, 2026

Awards of at least $500 are given to one or more applicants each year who meet the above criteria and are recommended by the scholarship committee. Payments are only made to the schools.

College Club West

This scholarship is awarded annual to Greater Cleveland women. Eligibility:

  • At least 25 years old
  • Enrolled in a 4-year degree-granting program or graduate program, or in at least the third year of a bachelor's program

College Now Scholarships

College Now offers scholarships for high school students served by College Now advisors and adult learners. Brunswick, Highland, Buckeye, and Cloverleaf are College Now served schools.

College Now Traditional Student Scholarship

  • Attend a College Now-served high school (This includes Brunswixc)
  • Have a cumulative weighted GPA of at least a 2.5
  • Have a minimum ACT composite score of 18 or combined verbal and math SAT score of 960
  • File the 2026-2027 FAFSA
  • Qualify for the Federal Pell Grant

Deadline: March 11, 2026

College Now Adult Learner Scholarship

  • Be age 19 or older as of March 31, 2026 and must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Have interrupted their education for at least two semesters
  • Qualify for the Federal Pell Grant
  • Be a resident of Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull or Wayne counties
  • File the 2026-2027 FAFSA

Hinckley Women's Club Scholarships

The Hinckley Women's Club is offering two $1000 financial assistance scholarships to eligible Hinckley residents. The scholarship is open only to Hinckley residents currently pursuing a post high school training program, or to any Hinckley resident planning to do so in the fall. Post high school training includes business school, technical school or college/university study.

The Junior League of Cleveland

The Junior League of Cleveland (JLC) is pleased to announce the opportunity for students to apply for a scholarship to support the achievement of their post-secondary education goals. Scholarships are awarded up to $5,000. The next application window opens on November 1, 2025 and will close on February 1, 2026.

  • Applicants must identify as women meet either of the following:
    • A nontraditional student who has overcome obstacles to resume their education, and/or
    • A graduate of the foster care system
  • Applicants must attend a fully accredited college, technical program, or graduate school within the state of Ohio
  • Applicants must be permanent residents of one of the following Ohio Counties: Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina and Trumbull

Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Scholarships

Children of Members Scholarship

Each year, LMRE awards $10,000 in scholarships to outstanding high school seniors who live in a home served by the co-op. The student chosen as the top overall applicant is also eligible to compete for an additional scholarship worth up to $4,100 at the statewide contest sponsored by Ohio's Electric Cooperatives.

Cooperative Trade Scholarship

LMRE offers a $500 scholarship to high school seniors pursuing further education at a technical or trade school after graduation. Qualified courses include, but are not limited to, industrial electricity, heating, air conditioning, auto technology, welding, and nursing.

Touchstone Energy Adversity Scholarship

This scholarship is offered to high school students pursuing a college education despite unique and substantial personal challenges outside of work or extracurricular commitments that may have befallen them the opportunity to earn a $1,000 scholarship.

Ohio's Electric Cooperatives Children of Employees & Trustees Scholarship

Replacing the Louise Freeland and Ohio Line Supervisors Association scholarships, this scholarship opportunity through Ohio's Electric Cooperatives is available to graduating seniors who are the children, legal wards, or residents in the household of an Ohio rural electric distribution cooperative trustee/director or employee, employee of Buckeye Power Inc., Ohio's Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc., or the Cardinal Power Plant.

This sponsorship is awarded to graduating Medina County Resident High School Students.

Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities

The Medina County Board of DD is proud to offer this scholarship to graduating seniors in the community. Administered by the Donated Funds Committee, it was founded to recognize and encourage young persons in pursuing a career which serves individuals with disabilities.

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be a resident of Ohio.
  • Parents of the applicant (or applicant) must be Farm Bureau members of Medina County Farm Bureau.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following courses of study:
    • An accredited high school program, with personal plans to pursue a degree as a full-time student in an accredited two-year technical school or four-year college or university program.
    • An accredited two-year technical school.
    • An accredited four-year college or university program.

The Bernard R. Spechalske Scholarship

A $2000 Scholarship for High School Seniors

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a senior (12th grade status).
  • The applicant (or parent, grandparent or guardian) must be a current member of The Medina County Federal Credit Union.
  • The applicant must pursue an associate or undergraduate degree in an institution of higher learning.
  • The applicant must include a transcript of grades and standardized test results (i.e. PSAT, SAT, ACT, etc.) through their junior year plus a copy of their grade cards for the first semester of their senior year.
  • The applicant must use the scholarship during the academic year immediately following the acceptance of the scholarship. If the scholarship is not used by June 30 of the following year, it will be forfeited.

The Medina County Federal Credit Union Memorial Scholarship

A $2000 for Current Students of College or Other Post High School Education. High school seniors ae not eligible for this scholarship.

Eligibility

  • High school seniors are not eligible for this scholarship and previous scholarship recipients are also not eligible.
  • The applicant must be a full-time student attending an institution of higher learning (college, trade school etc.).
  • The applicant (or parent, grandparent or guardian) must be a current member of The Medina County Federal Credit Union.
  • Enclose a transcript from the college/trade school.
  • The applicant must use the scholarship during the academic year immediately following the acceptance of the scholarship. If the scholarship is not used by June 30 of the following year, it will be forfeited.

Medina County Retired Teachers Association (MCRTA)

Eligibility

  • Graduate of a Medina County high school
  • Majoring in Education
  • A Junior or Senior in college in Fall 2026

Medina Sunrise Rotary Fund

The Walter J. and Mildred Kanieski - Medina Sunrise Rotary Vocational Scholarship is $1,000 to support a high school senior who will be attending a vocational or technical school. Students must live within the Buckeye, Cloverleaf, Highland, or Medina School Districts. Two recipients will be awarded this scholarship on the basis of vocational interest, character, and community or school service. Deadline to apply is April 3, 2026.

e Medina Sunrise Rotary Club Service Above Self Scholarship is $2,000 to support a high school senior who wishes to attend college or vocational/technical school. Eight awards will be made in total (two each from the Buckeye, Cloverleaf, Highland, and Medina Districts) on the basis of academic achievement, character, and community or school service. The deadline to apply is April 3, 2026.

The Ohio-Michigan Association of Career Colleges and Schools

2026 LEADS! Scholarship
The Ohio-Michigan Association of Career Colleges and Schools (OMACCS) is offering our 2026 LEADS! Scholarship program for Ohio & Michigan high school seniors graduating by Spring 2026! This year we are offering 147 scholarships at 16 Ohio and Michigan career colleges, totaling over $255,000, with FULL and PARTIAL scholarships available!

Ohio Education Association

Marilyn Cross Scholarship

Eligibility: Criteria for the $4,000 scholarship are as follows:

  • the recipient must be a unified Ohio Education Association member, must be a career teacher in the teaching profession, must be enrolled in a graduate-level program directly linked to their current area of licensure, must be in need of financial assistance, and must demonstrate a reasonable prediction of success in graduate work.
  • One year after the scholarship is awarded, the recipient shall provide OEA with a statement describing his/her employment and graduate work status.

John F. Kennedy Scholarship

Eligibility: Criteria for the $4,000 scholarship are as follows:

  • the recipient must be a unified Ohio Education Association member
  • must be a career teacher in the teaching profession
  • must be enrolled in a graduate-level program
  • must be in need of financial assistance and must demonstrate a reasonable prediction of success in graduate work.
  • Preference will be given to applicants enrolled in programs that continue classroom involvement.
  • One year after the scholarship is awarded, the recipient shall provide OEA with a statement describing his/her employment and graduate work status.

Jean Kershaw Scholarship

Eligibility: In order to qualify for this $2000 award, a student applicant must be an undergraduate currently enrolled as:

  • a sophomore or a junior in an approved teacher education program at an accredited Ohio college or university; OR,
  • a senior in an approved teacher education program at an Ohio college or university who has been formally accepted for graduate study in a master's degree of education program at an accredited Ohio college or university.

Eligibility: Criteria for the $4,000 scholarship are as follows:

  • The recipient must be a unified Ohio Education Association member
  • Must be a career ESP in public education, must be enrolled in a teacher preparation program
  • Must be in need of financial assistance, and should demonstrate a reasonable prediction of success in collegiate work.

Ohio Township Association

Five $1500 scholarships for high school seniors. Student must live in one of Ohio's 1,308 townships. Scholarships are offered in three categories: Academic Achievement (two scholarships), Local Government Achievement (two scholarships), and Trade School (one Scholarship).

Stephen F. Joseph Memorial 4-H Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1000 annually, or more, for as long as funds are available to the students(s) who best meet the award criteria. Selection criteria: Academic achievement, citizenship and community service, leadership, 4-H involvement. Applicant must be a Medina County high school senior or college freshman.
